“I haven’t come to the Dominican Republic to tell you about healing,” Pastor Benny Hinn greeted the enthusiastic crowd in Santo Domingo’s Estadio Olimpico Juan Pablo Duarte. “I’ve come here to tell you about the Healer!”
People were still streaming in as the service began. Traffic had jammed all the streets near the stadium. The huge stadium was packed to capacity, with additional people outside the stadium. In the midst of this electrified atmosphere, the crowd filled the air with majestic praise and worship. It was the perfect beginning for a crusade that people are already calling historic.
Located in the Caribbean, between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean on the eastern two-thirds of La Isla Española (Haiti occupies the western one-third of the island), the Dominican Republic was explored and claimed by Christopher Columbus on his first voyage in 1492. In fact, when the adventurer sighted its coral-edged Caribbean coastline on his first voyage to the New World, he reportedly pronounced: “There is no more beautiful island in the world.”
Millions since then have agreed enthusiastically, and from that point the island of Hispaniola has been a springboard for discovery throughout the Caribbean and the American mainland as well as a spectacular destination for sugar-white beaches and rich natural beauty.
Today over 9 million people live in the Dominican Republic, and there is an increasing openness to the preaching of the Word throughout this region of the world. Never before have so many opportunities existed for the Gospel throughout the Caribbean islands.
Throughout the island, multitudes are clearly hungry for the life-saving and miracle-working message of Jesus Christ. That was never more evident than the beginning of the first crusade service.
“The Dominican Republic Belongs to Jesus!”
Prior to the first service of the highly anticipated Dominican Republic Holy Spirit Miracle Crusade, Pastor Benny met with and was warmly received by Dr. and Mrs. Leonel Fernandez Reyna, President and First Lady of the Dominican Republic.
Early in the service Pastor Benny welcomed more dignitaries from the government. A large flag of the Dominican Republic was brought to the platform and Pastor Benny took time to note that this was the only national flag that he had ever seen that bore the emblems of an open Bible and a cross on it.
“The Dominican Republic belongs to Jesus!” Pastor Benny declared as the crowd responded with resounding shouts and applause. Following the presentation of the flag, the national anthem was sung.
Pastor Benny preached a faith-filled message noting several scriptural references where all were healed. “I haven’t come to the Dominican Republic to tell you about healing; I’ve come to tell you about the Healer! I haven’t come to preach about salvation; I’ve come to tell you about the Savior!”
Before Pastor Benny could even conclude his message, a mighty anointing of the Holy Spirit descended on the stadium and miracles began to happen. He began to call out words of knowledge of miracles that were happening intermittently with worshiping Lord Jesus in song. “There’s a mighty anointing here!” Pastor Benny declared as the choir continued to sing behind him.
Miracles Abound
As he called out the various miracles that were happening, people began to come out of wheelchairs and throw down their crutches.
Some of the miracles that happened the first night included these powerful testimonies:
Many other miracles took place during the service, and there were many people still lined up on each side of the platform at the end of the service.
At the close of the first night’s service, Pastor Benny gave an invitation for salvation, explaining that the greatest miracle is not physical but spiritual. People streamed forward from all over the stadium, responding to the invitation to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. People of all ages prayed the prayer of salvation and gave their hearts and lives to Jesus Christ.
The Final Service Sees an Increase in God’s Power
Building on the excitement from Friday evening’s service, the expectations continued to grow as Saturday night’s service approached.
Santo Domingo’s Estadio Olimpico was jammed to capacity, the seats completely filled and people standing all over the vast soccer field. An additional nearby stadium was used to seat an overflow crowd of 12,000.
Early in the service the people once again honored their nation with the singing of their national anthem.
There was an intense anointing of the Holy Spirit from the outset of the service.
Pastor Benny preached a dynamic message on God’s attitude toward sin and sickness, stating, “Sickness cannot exist when you have a face-to-face encounter with the living Christ!” As Pastor Benny proclaimed the Word of God, he urged people to trust God for miracles.
The atmosphere was explosive with a great sense of expectancy in the audience. As Pastor Benny continued to preach the Word of God, the audience responded more and more as their hearts grasped the truth of his message. Miracles began to happen even while Pastor Benny preached. Then, as he called out words of knowledge about miracles that were happening in the crowd, people began to make their way into the aisles and toward the platform.
“If God has touched you tonight, come to the right or left of the platform now and testify of what God has done for you. Even if you can’t get on the platform, come forward and make a public declaration of your miracle!”
The crusade’s final service included so many powerful, touching miracles:
Other miracles included healings from arthritis, and many were healed of various types of cancer. Some were delivered from drug additions. So many people responded that it was impossible for all those who were healed to come to the platform and testify of God’s healing touch.
As the service came to a close, Pastor Benny extended a call for salvation, the greatest miracle of all. People of all ages from all over the stadium—men and women, young people, boys and girls—responded to the salvation call, streaming forward, lifting their hands, and asking Jesus Christ to be their Savior and Lord!
“It was wonderful to be here with the precious people of the Dominican Republic,” Pastor Benny Hinn reported afterward. “The people here witnessed God’s power as never before. I am asking for partners all over the globe to intercede mightily for the people who received Jesus Christ as Savior, that this move of God will spread throughout the island and the entire region.”
